Dentures & Partials
What are Dentures & Partials?
When most people think of dentures, they automatically assume that this dental appliance is meant for adults. Fortunately, high-quality and custom made dentures can be made for children as well. If your child is missing all or most of their own natural teeth, we might recommend that they be fitted for a denture. The denture is a great way to improve the look of their smile as well as how it functions.
Why would Dentures & Partials be needed?
If your child is missing the majority or all of their primary or permanent teeth, it can be difficult for them to eat, chew and even speak. This problem can take a toll on their self-esteem as well. For this reason, it is important that you consider having a denture made for them. This prosthetic appliance is ideal for kids of all ages and because they’re custom made, they will look completely natural.
What makes your child a candidate for Dentures & Partials?
To determine if your child may need a full or partial denture, we can perform an examination and take x-rays. In some cases, your child might not have any of their primary (baby) teeth left, and it’s making it difficult for them to eat and chew. For older children and teens, their teeth might be severely decayed or damaged, and they would benefit from a prosthetic appliance.
What happens during the procedure to make Dentures & Partials?
The process begins with impressions. These detailed molds of your child’s teeth and gums enable us to create a custom-fit appliance. Your child will come in to have the denture fitted and adjusted to their needs. It is important that the dentures be removed each night in order to keep them cleaned and stored away. The dentures themselves need to be replaced every five to seven years, or as soon as they show signs of wear. Your child will love their smile, and they’ll find it helps to improve their quality of life.
