Dental X-rays
What are Dental X-rays?
A dental x-ray is a type of radiographic image that enables us to see below the surface of your child’s smile. There are many dental conditions and problems that can only be seen on a dental x-ray. We use the latest technology available within the dental industry to take x-rays. This means that the process is safe and reliable for children of all ages.
Why might Dental X-rays be needed?
The reason your child might need a dental x-ray is because we need to be able to look below the surface of their teeth and gums. X-rays are helpful for checkup appointments, especially when it comes to checking for cavities and monitoring growth. We might require x-rays prior to orthodontic treatment and oral surgery. For new patients, we’ll take a full set of x-rays as needed to help provide the best quality care.
Who is a candidate for Dental X-rays?
Because we use the best technology available for taking x-rays, you can feel confident in knowing that your child is safe when these images are taken in the office. Most children who are over the age of three or four should have x-rays taken. These x-rays are a great way for us to provide them with the care that they need. We make sure that the x-ray process is as quick and comfortable for your child as possible.
What happens during the Dental X-ray process?
The x-ray process involves placing a small lead apron over your child’s body. This helps to prevent radiation from hitting their body while it is in use. We then place a small x-ray appliance in their mouth and aim the machine itself at this device. The x-ray is taken and the device moved to another area. The process is repeated until all necessary x-rays have been taken. We offer panoramic x-rays as well, which allow us to get a clear view of your child’s mouth in its entirety. All x-rays use a minimal amount of radiation and are safe for kids of all ages.
