Dental Exams & Cleanings
What are Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Exams and cleanings help to keep your child’s smile healthy and bright. Regardless of their age, we recommend that they have a cleaning and exam performed once every six months. This allows us to remove heavy buildup and stains from their teeth as well as check for any intraoral problems. The exam and cleaning process is quite easy, and the appointment typically takes just 30 minutes in our office.
Why might Dental Exams & Cleanings be needed?
Every child should be coming into the office for a routine exam and cleaning. With comprehensive preventative care, we are able to prevent cavities and other dental problems. This means fewer invasive procedures needed in your child’s future. Even if it’s been awhile since your child’s last dental appointment, it is never too late to get them in to be seen.
Who is a candidate for Dental Exams & Cleanings?
Every child is a good candidate for an exam and cleaning. In fact, we typically recommend that parents bring their kids in for their first appointment once the first baby teeth begin to erupt through the gums. From that point on, it’s important to make it a habit to bring them in once every six months. In order to prevent you from forgetting, we can pre-schedule their cleanings for you and call you before the appointment comes up.
What can your child expect with Dental Exams & Cleanings?
The appointment is easy, quick and comfortable for your child. Our office is kid-friendly, and we use non-scary terminology at all times. We first perform a cleaning, which is done by a licensed dental hygienist. Once the teeth are cleaned and polished, our doctors will perform the exam. We are looking for signs of decay as well as the overall growth and development of their smile. Your child may need to have x-rays done at this appointment to further help in identifying any intraoral problems.
